Upgraded broadband to a fast 55 MBS

Great news. BT have finally upgraded the broadband network in the area. From January 2018 guests at the Briar Rose will now be able to access the internet at lightning fast speeds allowing excellent data streaming and  conferencing connections.

The Briar Rose Holiday Accommodation – Renovation

In December 2015 work began on renovating the property to get it ready to bring to the market as a holiday let.  The Kitchen and garage were demolished and the interior of the house guttered. The garage was re-built and a new larger kitchen was built incorporating part of the patio.  On tying the new kitchen roof into the main roof, issues were identified resulting in a new being roof put on The new gas boiler relocated into the garage and the entire house was rewired and ne plumbing installed. All walls and ceilings were plastered and or skimmed, and the entire house decorated with new flooring and carpets being laid. All work done was inspected and passed as good and certificates issued.  Finally in July 2016 the patio was laid and the drive was widened to enable easier parking.

Attractions on Wearside

Penshaw Monument is visible for miles around. Built in 1844 on Penshaw Hill between the districts of Washington and Houghton-le-Spring, within the City of Sunderland, North East England, this folly is dedicated to John Lampton(1792–1840), 1st Earl of Durham and the first Governor of the Province of Canada. The monument dominates the local landscape as a half-sized replica of the Temple of Hephaestus in Athens. It is floodlit at night and within easy walking distance of The Briar Rose.

Attractions on Tyneside

Newcastle and Gateshead have a thriving entertainment sector with numerous theatres and other venues to choose from A good starting place would be Gateshead Quays, home to the Sage,  a concert venue and also a centre for musical education, located in Gateshead on the south bank of the River Tyne, in the North East of England. It opened in 2004 and is tenanted by the North Music Trust.

Public Transport.

Just 5 minutes drive from the A1 (M) and a similar distance to the A19, getting around by car is quick and easy.

Bus stops are just a couple of minutes walk from the property, enabling travel around the region for those days when you want to leave the car at home. This is particularly useful should you decide to enjoy one of the many scenic walks in the area, or maybe take a drink or two when out and about. Bus operators in the area are Nexus and Go North East.

Nexus are also the operator for the Metro system, a local rail network that provides quick, reliable and cheap transport in Tyne and Wear from Newcastle Airport in the north to South Hylton in the south. The metro,  bus routes and timetables are available online.
